The Florida Board is Now Accepting Applications for the Performance of Dry Needling  by Occupational Therapists!⁺

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform dry needling in Florida, an Occupational Therapist must comply with section 468.227, Florida Statutes, and Rule 64B11-4.008, Florida Administrative Code, Minimum Standards of Practice for the Performance of Dry Needling, which require as follows:

• a minimum of two years of practice as a licensed occupational therapist;
• 50 hours of board-approved face-to-face continuing education*; and
• completion of 25 patient sessions on dry needling under one of the following scenarios:
  • supervised by an occupational therapist, physical therapist or chiropractic physician who holds an active license to practice in any state or the District of Columbia, and has actively performed dry needling for at least one (1) year; or
  • completed as an occupational therapist licensed in any state or in the United States Armed Forces).

• Visit the Board’s website at https://floridasoccupationaltherapy.gov/occupational-therapist/#application-for-the-performance-of-dry-needling-ot for detailed requirements on applying as well as other important information regarding dry needling requirements. Note that a fee is not required for this application.

⁺Please note that Occupational Therapists may not provide dry needling services until approved by the Board.

*The Board is required to approve CE providers that would like to offer the required dry needling continuing education course to Occupational Therapists. Once approved, licensees will be able to locate acceptable courses through CEBroker.
