The Board of Occupational Therapy
The Florida Board of Occupational Therapy‘s members and staff play an important role in health care regulation through interaction with prospective applicants, licensees, education providers and the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
The Florida Board of Occupational Therapy Practice consists of 7 members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. The membership is composed of four licensed occupational therapists, one licensed occupational therapy assistant and two consumer members not affiliated with the practice of the profession. The occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistant are required to be licensed in good standing in Florida and engaged in the practice of the profession for at least 4 years immediately prior to appointment. All board members must be Florida residents.

The Department of Health's Division of Medical Quality Assurance serves as the principle administrative support unit for the board. The board is supported by a full-time professional staff based in Tallahassee, and its regulatory functions are funded in full by fees paid by its licensees. Board members are appointed by the Governor and subject to confirmation by the Senate. Members of the board can serve two four-year terms. Responsibilities: Serves as the Team Lead application processing specialist and a subject matter expert for the Occupational Therapy Board. Handles initial licensure application reviews and determines eligibility for OT/OTA licensure applications, Exemption from Disqualification applications and license renewals. Assists with general to specific concerns regarding licensure, reactivations, renewals, continuing education requirements, laws and rules questions, and public feedback response. Processes Continuing Education Provider applications. Assists Ahna Chamlis, Regulation Specialist III with Board meeting agendas and minutes. Lead Contact person for the Board, assists the Program Operations Administrator. Also assists with Psychology application processing.

Responsibilities: Processes and monitors applications for psychologist, provisional psychologist, and limited license psychologist licensure. Prepares agendas and material for quarterly board meetings. Processes continuing education course and provider applications. Responds to general inquiries regarding licensure, continuing education requirements and reactivation of licensure from inactive or retired status. Also assists with School Psychologists, Occupational Therapy and Electrology application processing.

Responsibilities: Regulatory Specialist II – Handles initial licensure application reviews and determines eligibility for OT/OTA licensure applications, Refunds, and license renewals. Contact person for the Occupational Therapy Board, assists with general to specific concerns regarding licensure, reactivations, renewals, continuing education requirements, laws and rules questions, and public feedback response. Also assists with Psychology, School Psychology and Electrology application processing.

Responsibilities: Serves as an application processing specialist for the Electrology profession. Processes and answers questions regarding electrologist licensure, electrology exam information, electrology facility licensure and laser and light-based hair removal protocols. Assists with inquiries regarding 320-hour electrolysis training programs and 30-hour laser hair removal continuing education providers. Also assists with Occupational Therapy, Psychology and School Psychology application processing.

Responsibilities: Answering all calls for the Medical Therapies/Psychology Unit, processes applications for licensure for the Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council and back up processor for the Boards of Psychology, School Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Electrolysis, Respiratory Care, and Physical Therapy. Processes all mail for the unit and runs daily reports. Assists with other duties, as needed.
